Acupuncture to stop smoking is effective and I am speaking from personal experience. I had been a smoker for nearly 20 years when my work took me to Europe where it seems everyone smokes, I went from being about a pack a day smoker to nearly 2 packs a day. When I returned home I was sick and tired of smoking and was really ready to quit. At the time I was an intern in acupuncture college, so I had one of my colleagues give me a couple of treatments and I began taking herbs. Many of tobacco’s health effects can be minimized through smoking cessation. The health benefits over time of stopping smoking include:
- Within 20 minutes after quitting, blood pressure and heart rate decrease
- Within 12 hours, carbon monoxide levels in the blood decrease to normal
- Within 3 months, circulation and lung function improve
